PART A - OWNERSHIP:
I purchased this car in November of 2004 from the original owner who
bought this car brand new from Community Motors in Oak Forest,
Illinois. When I purchased it, it had 68,316 miles on it. To date, it
has 71,115 miles.
The original owner bought the car and drove it in the summertime in
Chicago and stored it with his other cars in the wintertime (car
collector). In the summer of 1996, he drove the car down to Scottsdale,
AZ and kept it down there so he had a nice car to drive around in the
wintertime since he spent his winters down there. He kept it with one
of his acquaintances who was a fellow collectors from spring to fall.
In the summer of 2004, he and his wife retired and moved to Castle Rock,
CO and she told him he had to downsize his collection from 12 to 3. The
day I convinced my wife that we could afford an 89 Turbo Trans Am, I
first started looking on eBay to get an idea of how much to spend. Low
and behold, there was one for sale, 10 miles from my house. I emailed
the seller and he had it on there for less than 2 hours! I set an
appointment to go test drive it and we settled on a price and I took her
home the next day.
PART B -MOTOR:
The engine is all original, down to the AC Delco
air filter. The original owner was very meticulous about his cars. He
kept everything for the car, including EVERY oil change receipt. On
every one, it shows that he brought in his own oil filter and when I
purchased the car, he had a half full box of the PF1218 oil filters in
the hatch. These even say on the box that they are for the 89 Turbo
Trans Am with the 3.8 Liter turbo. He kept his car all GM. The
original spark plug wires that say, "20th Anniversary Trans Am", were
removed and replaced with AC Delco wires.
PART C - TRANNY:
The transmission is the original transmission,
however it was rebuilt on 08/01/05 with a factory rebuild and filled
with Mobil 1 synthetic fluid. One thing to note was that the tag on the
tranny, a TTA specific tag, shows that the tranny was #448, even though
the car is #437. This means that the cars and transmissions are not the
same serial number in every car. The factory Borg Warner 3.27 posi is
stock and original and the fluid was replaced in
06/05 with Mobil 1 synthetic.
PART D - BRAKES, SUSPENSION, WHEELS & TIRES: The
factory brakes are original and stock. The front brake pads were
replaced on 01/07/00 and the rears were replaced on 10/19/98. The brake
system was completely drained and filled with new fluid on 04/15/05.
The suspension is still stock and original. Still has the factory AC
Delco struts and Bilstein rear shocks. The wheels are the factory 16"
crosslace gold wheels.
The tires have been changed a few times:
07/19/94 - Kelly Charger VR tires 28,368 miles
08/10/96 - Eagle GT II tires
38,553 miles
01/03/03 - Yokohama YK420 tires 66,528 miles
PART E - BODY & PAINT:
The body and paint is all original and
stock. The factory door decals and windshield decal were applied by the
original owner in hopes of them drawing more attention to the car. I
have left them on. The interior is the factory leather/t-top
combination. Of the 1,555 TTA's made, 1,324 were leather/t-tops. The
car has NEVER had the t-tops off and does not exhibit the creaks or
rattles like many t-top f-bodies. The interior is all stock
and original.
PART F - PERFORMANCE: The car
has never been raced at a track.
PART G - OTHER: I have been
collecting everything that has to do with the 1989 Turbo Trans Am ever
since I bought mine. I have an extensive collection of magazines,
photos, models, and other miscellaneous items on my CarDomain page.
